The Big Wave 4

23 05 2011

In The Big Wave, Jiya is put in a difficult position.  After his village is destroyed and his family killed, a rich old gentleman offers to adopt him.  With Old Gentleman, Jiya would have everything he’d ever need – a beautiful home, riches, the best education… however, when it comes time to decide, Jiya chooses to live with Kino’s poor family – selecting a life of hard work, no money, and wondering if there will be enough food for everyone.

Tell me in your own words why you think Jiya made the right choice.  Also tell me why he may have made the wrong choice.

Be sure to type out your answers in complete sentences.  Be sure to back up your ideas with some examples, evidence, or proof.   Be sure to check back and see what other people say too.  Be sure to comment on what they say.

He make the right choice because he could work with his best friend and will even be his brother but he also made a bad choice. He could have had much better education, a large home to live in, and a lot of money that he might be able to use to help Kino’s family.

even though he is staying with his best friend, he wont be able to have a good education like he could of had.

Kind of like Mr. Curtis said,

Overall I think Jiya made the right choice. He gets to grow up with his best friend and live how he probably would’ve lived if his parents didn’t die. The bad thing about his decision is, he could have been rich. If Jiya lived with the old man he could have gone to a great school, or give money to Kino’s family. Jiya also would have had a big house, nice clothes, and so much more that he couldn’t get with Kino. That’s my personal opinion.

personally i think that jiya made the right decision because now he will have respectful traits and he will still be with his friends and family that he knows. on the other hand he could have made the wrong decision this is because if he was to live with the rich man then he would have an amazing education and grow up to be snotty and spoiled.

he really did make the right choice. it is better for him in the long run.

I think that Jiya made the right decision and the wrong decision. Jiya made the right decision because he knows that he is with a family that loves him &that he loves. Also it is similar to how he grew up before the big wave hit and his parents died so he wont really have to change much about himself. I also think that he made the wrong decision because he could have still been able to be friends with Kino and hang-out with him along with helping his family by giving them some of the rich old man’s money. The money could have R E A L L Y helped Kino’s family because they are poor and can’t afford many things.

Jiya had reasons for staying with Kino. He lives with someone he knows and loves. He lives with people he knows love him back. Kino’s family may think the same, being so close with Jiya’s family. Then, on the other hand, he may have made a bad decision. If he went with the old guy, he could have been rich. Jiya could have had whatever he wanted. He could have gone to school. He would have probably grown up to be the most educated in their village. The old guy would have also given Kino’s family money to live on. He could have made the village better. Jiya might have been a bit selfish. I personally think he should have set aside his feelings and lived with the old guy. It would have been better for everyone.

Jiya made the right choice but also made the wrong one. He made the right choice too live with Kino’s family because he would grow up pretty close too thew same way he would have with his own family. He would grow up with as much hard work and as much frustration as he would have normally. This is good for Jiya too grow up the way he was supposed too but, it was also a stupid choice to live with Kino. I he would have live with the old man he would have had alot of money and grown up with food to fill his stomach and a good education. He could have also helped Kino’s family and given them money and food and such. But his choice was right for him. He will grow up the way he was supposed too. The way he wanted too.

I think Jiya made the right choice because he knows Kino’s family will love him and do the best they can to take care of them. Although, he could of had a great life with the old gentlemen, he could of had a great education, and never had to do any farm work. But, I think Jiya made the right decision, because money isn’t everything and he knows Kino’s real well and knows they will try their hardest to give him the best life he can get. I understand why Jiya picked Kino’s family, because who would rather stay with someone they don’t know when they could be staying with their best friend. In the end, if I were Jiya i would pick Kino because money isn’t everything.

There are reasons of how jiya made the right choice. But also the wrong choice. Jiya made the right choice because he can grow up with people similar and with people who he knows and who knows him. Jiya barely even knows the old gentleman. But he made the wrong choice because that guy is rich. Jiya can get a good education, a nice house, anything that is pretty much the opposite of Kino’s family which is poor, poor education, and all that. Well each side has good tings and ad things but Jiya chose to stay with Kino’s family.

also, with the old gentlemen he would not of had to work such as farming.

In The Big Wave, Jiya chooses to stay and live with Kino’s family instead of living with the rich old man. Jiya made the right choice because he would grow up with a life more similar to the life he would have lived if the big wave hadn’t happened. Also, he made the right choice because he is already loved by Kino’s family, and he is good friends with Kino. I think that the old rich man doesn’t actually love Jiya, he just wants a son.
Jiya could of also made the wrong decision when he refused the old man’s offer. Jiya could have made the wrong decision because if he lived with the old man, Jiya would have a better education, and would be more likely to succeed in life. He would also most likely be better cared for, since Kino’s family doesn’t have a lot of money.

I think Jiya made the right decision to stay and live with Kino. I know he won’t have all of the luxuries of living with the old Gentleman but he will have something more important, a family. He will be used to Kino’s way of life so he wont have to change. I think it would be hard to go from a hardworking fisherman to a proper rich kid. There would also be benefits to living with the old gentleman. Jiya could get an education. He could have guaranteed dinner every day. Jiya could use his education to help people like he used to be. Jiya wouldn’t have to work a day in his life. Overall I think living ith prople who love you and you love back is more important than an old man’s money.

Yes, I think Jiya made the right decision too, although there might have been more benefits if Jiya lived with the old gentlemen.

I think he made the right choice because he knows and loves the people that he is staying with. But he made the wrong choice because he could get an education, a wealthy life, and he could donate money to Kino and his family. I think he couldn’t really make a right or wrong choice.
If he went with the old man he could have made an education, which is a big deal back then. He also would be the wealthiest person in the town, other than the old man. Lastly, he could have sent money to Kino and his family and played with Kino all the time. But, he chose Kino’s family.
When he goes with the choice he made, he gets to be with people he knows and loves. Also, he can be with the same or similar believers as him. Lastly, these people are very close to him, like a special part of his heart is for them. Maybe this choice might have been better for him.

i agree, there really is no right or wrong choice, if i were Jiya i’d probably stay with Kino too, because i know him well.

To me any place would be good. If I lived in my friends house I would fell more protected. I would now the people so I would trust them. Iwould know that they would take care of me.
On the other hand, Jino could stay at the rich mans place. In the book he said he would give jino a good education. He also said he would give money to jino to help his poor friends. That could of helped his friends alot. This would have also been a good choice to pick.
For me I would pick the rich house one. The man promised Jino that he could help out his friends and they could see jino whenever they wanted to. continued

I would also feel more protected if I lived with my friends too.

I think Jiya made the wrong decision in a way. If he would have lived with Old Gentlemen, he would have a brighter future than with Kino. Jiya could have had education, good food, nice clothes,he could heal, and probably have his own room. Jiya would have had the experience of his life. If he would have been living with Kino, he wouldn’t be capable of having all these things. I believe that maybe if Jiya chose to live with Kino, he would have more love. But Old Gentlemen can still give Jiya love too. If Jiya would have chose to live with Old Gentlemen, he would’ve still been able to be friends with Kino and stop by his house once and awhile. So then it couldn’t be that bad if he missed them. So it would have pretty much worked out fine. If anything since Kino’s family is poor, Jiya could give them some money sometimes for farming or something. I think Jiya made the wrong decision, but those are the mistakes in life that you learn from. I wonder what would have happened if he chose to live with Old Gentlemen?

24 05 2011

me too, he probably would of had not to work and had a much better life than he is having with kino, even though they are best friends.

I think Jiya made the wrong choice because he could still be with Kino and play with him. He could also help Kino with money from the old gentleman. Then he could visit Kino and help him. I also think Jiya needs something like those riches to keep his mind off of the loss of his entire family. In a way Jiya’s choice did make sense. Now he lives with his best friend and family in a life similar to his own. If I was in that situation I would pick the Old Gentleman so I could help my friend.

Did Jiya make the right decision? In some cases he did. He is now with the ones he loves and feels still at home. Jiya will probably be more comfortable with them instead of a total stranger. Though in some cases, he may have mad a bad decision. If Jiya would of gone with the rich man, then he could pay to help Kino and his father on their farm. He could also help to repair some of Japan, especially for loved ones without homes. Tsunamis are always tragic. But that doesn’t mean life can’t go on. My dad once told me “Life is a word meaning: a challenge to find and enjoy the light side of things; the only way to find them is to dig through tragedy first”. In everyone’s life there will always be a little tragedy. But Jiya always looks on the bright side of things. He was as poor as Kino and Uchiyana before the tsunami, and he lived pretty well, he can do it again with 2 extra people there helping him

I think there’s many reasons why Jiya choose to live with Kino and his family, and why he didn’t choose to live with the old gentlemen. One is because he knows them better. So it won’t be awkward like it will if he went to live with the old gentlemen. Another is since he would have to do a lot of farm work, it would be the same as when he might of helped his dad with fishing. But if he lived with the old gentlemen he wouldn’t work at all. He would become spoiled, and wouldn’t be a good person anymore. That’s why its a good thing he’s living with Kino’s family. But there’s also a downside to not living with the old gentlemen. He won’t get a good education if he lives with Kino. But the old gentlemen would be able to pay for Jiya to get a great education. Also Jiya would be able to have everything he needs, like a house, food and water. But with Kino’s family they don’t have a great house like the old gentlemen. And won’t have enough food and water all the time. So there’s some bad things about not living with the old gentlemen. But I still think Jiya made the right choice.

I feel that there are ups and downs to Jiya’s choice. He could of had it all with the old man. He would have money to help his friends and family. He could gotten an education and helped out his village with technology and such. At Kino’s home he would be poor. He would only have enough to survive. He would be a starving and hard working boy when he could of had life on a silver plaster.

He also made somewhat of a good choice though. Kino’s father is very wise and can teach Jiya a lot about life. Jiya also has a brother and a sister who are both very loving. As you can see there is no right or wrong choice Jiya could of made. The best thing to do is to follow your heart and hope you’ll find love. Only love feeds the soul but but an empty soul is left untouched.

It is opinionated whether he made the right choice or the wrong choice to not stay with the old gentleman. one reason he could have made the wrong choice not to stay with the man is that he could have gotten an education. Very few people gotten a better education everyone was taught the simplest things, such as reading or writing, then they helped there parents work. those who could afford it paid for a good education to learn to become something like a scholar. Though there are many reasons why he made the correct choice to not live with the old man and to live with kino. One reason is that if he stayed with the old gentleman he would have felt out of place and also sad because he would not be able to see kino as often as before. I personally believe that he should have stayed with the gentleman so that he would have gotten an education and I believe that with an education he could have done something to help future children that go through the same thing, because japan will have many more earthquakes. More and more children would be without families and without a home but if Jiya got an education and did something to help those children he could have made a difference.

Jiya was forced to make a decision of money or friends. He chose friends which was the right and the wrong decision. I think his heart was telling him to stay with his friends and his mind was telling him to go with the old gentleman. He trusted his heart and stayed with his friends.
This is the wrong decision because with his money he could have given some to Kino to help out his family. He could also have used the money to give kids without good education money to get a good one. Besides the money he would always have food unlike with Kino that now the fisherman where gone they had no fish only crops like corn to eat. He would also have his own bedroom with warm blankets and soft pillows. He would also have a big home to run around in as to Kino’s which was very small. This would make it more comfortable to sleep. This is why Jiya has made the wrong decision.
It also was the right decision because every morning he would get to wake up to the faces of the people he loved. he would also get to spend more time with his friend Kino. He would also get to grow up just as if the wave never came because Kino’s family was a lot like his. Soon he would be so happy because everyday he would see the cheerful face of Setsu which would brighten his day. This is why Jiya has made the right decision.
Either decision he made would have been the right one. If it was to stay with his friends or to stay with the old gentleman, in the end he would have ended up happy knowing he made the right decision.

23 05 2011

The decision Jiya made to not stay with the old gentleman is the right choice, but also the wrong choice. It was the right choice to live with Kino’s family because they will love him just as much as much as Jiya’s own family. They will treat Jiya just as he is a part of their family. It is also better to live with Kino’s family because Jiya actually knows them. Some say Jiya made the right decision to live with Kino, but I thought that he should have stayed with the old gentleman. One reason is because the gentleman was very rich unlike Kino’s family. If Jiya chose to stay with the old man he might have lived a better life. He could afford to get a good education. Back then not many Japanese kids had an education. By living with the old gentleman Jiya would also be more stabilized if another tsunami hit their village. People argue whether Jiya made the right or wrong decision to live with Kino’s family and not the old gentleman, but either way he is still alive.

23 05 2011
Nikolas S

What I meant to say is… Like Mr. Curtis said, now he will be with people that he knows a lot about. The people that he is living with he has met before and they will probably get together better. Another thing is, Jiya is from a poorer kind of family not have to much in life, so it won’t effect him a lot now that he is living with Kino on a farm. He is used to the hard work. I think he made the wrong decision because he could have been living in royalty. he could have gone from having really nothing to having everything. Toys, money, schooling. He could have had some schooling in his regular life, but if he had accepted royalty, he could have had a full education which he could have used to help change the world. In conclusion, he could have made a bigger difference in the world if he had gone with the man that lived in the castle, than living with Kino.

23 05 2011
Bryce Connor Kurtzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Jiya made the right choice because he now lives with people that he knows. Kino’s family already knew him very well. He knew this family very well. So this was a good match for Jiya to live.
Aother way this was a good decision is because he will be prepared as Jiya gets older. Kino’s family is poor so if Jiya comes across a situation similar to this, he will know somewhat of what to do. Jiya will also have some experience of a job. To be able to live in Ki no’s family, Jiya will have to work so they can eat and pay for the home.
As well as a good decision, this could also be a bad choice. If he lived with Old Gentleman, he could almost have anything he wanted. He would have a great education. This was very hard to do back then because was very expensive. Only the most wealthy people could afford it.
Another way this was a bad choice is because Jiya could be rich and live in a lovely home. Old Gentleman had a very large amount of money that he could spend on Jiya. He wouldn’t have to work to live because he was already supported with money. Old Gentle man’s home could protect from weather that could harm someone or something.

I think that Jiya is making a good decision because he will live with kino and he will have a good life with him because he has his friend there because kino and him will be happy but he also mad the bad decision because then he won’t have anything that he wants because he has to live with kino and he will not get what he wants because then he will be poor because kino’s family is poor and he won’t have a good life and those are some of the reasons because he made a good and bad decision

23 05 2011

In the story, Jiya chose to live with Kino instead of the old gentlemen. This is the right decision because Kino and his parents are the only ones who truly care about Jiya. The old gentlemen only wanted him because he was strong. Kino was his best friend he ever had. Though kino’s dad was poor, he would make a much better father because he cared. I don’t think he made the right decision because the old gentlemen educate him and he would be smarter and it would be for the good of the town. Plus in kino’s family he would just be another mouth to feed.

23 05 2011

Jiya made the wrong choice because he could have gotten a good education and have whatever he wanted. But he also made the right choice because he will be with people he loves and they love him back. He wouldn’t be with people that loved him at the castle. It’s better to work for something than to just get it when you don’t deserve it. hgjfkdlsa nfpoiueanfiu4eqftrenfiunaqfriue

in my opinion i think that he did make the right choice. he knows that with kino that they love him and that he has a real family. but with the old man he knows that he only wants him for the way he looks. and to jiya that is not family. the reason i think he made the wrong decision is because of the life he could’ve had he could’ve been rich and had a very good education. the old man also said that he could give money to kino and see him anytime he wants. but but overall i think that jiya made the right decision to stay with kino and his family

I think he did because he knows all the people there. He will have people to really care for him. He also is working and helping a poor family. He made the bad decision by not going because he could have anything he wants and more. He could get a really good education. That means a better future for him and his family one day. Also for him to get an education learn things that he didn’t before. He probably wouldn’t look at the man as a father but as a person who cares and wants to give him a better life. What ever happens it works out because he has a house to live in and food to (maybe) so either way he gets someone to live with.

Jiya made the right choice. Although he also made the wrong choice. Jiya made the right choice because he choose the the fammily that love him for who he is. The old man wanted him because he was better than other. It was also the wrong choice. He choose to live with a pour family that could barly feed them selves. Now they will have to feed him which will cost more. Jiya will also have to work a lot in order to live with Kino’s family. If Jiya would have lived with the old man he would not have to work and he could have whatever he wants. The old man also could afford to feed him. That is why Jiya made the right and wrong decision.

Jiya made the right decision because the elderly man won’t love. The elder man only wants because he heard that he’s the best. Unlike the Uchiyama family they love him for who he is. They don’t care if he the best or the worst. They also will loved him as if their the same blood. Jiya also made the wrong choice because Jiya could have went to school and got educated. Be a great man and have a brighter future. The elder man said that Jiya could also still play with Kino. The man said that he can also give money to the poor. Jiya pick to be a farmer though and to be with his friend

i think he did make the right choice to stay with kino and his family. he would have everything he ever wanted. the only thing he wont have is his family and friends. i think he made the wrong choice because he could have had everything he wanted. thats what i think what do you think.

Jiya made the right decision because the old man doesn’t love him. Jiya knows that Kino’s family loves him and will take care of him they don’t just want him because he is the best which is why the old man wants him. Jiya also made the wrong decision because he would have everything he wanted and needed. He could have had a great education and become rich. He would still be able play with Kino and Kino’s family would get money because the old man would let Jiya give money to the poor.

I think that Jiya made the right choice because he can’t get Kino if he is living in the Old Gentleman’s castle. He can’t get the experience of having real family and friends. Yes, he’ll have riches but that won’t bring his family of friends back. Also that if Jiya does go to the Old Gentleman’s Castle he won’t be treated like family he will only be like a permanent guest. So this is why I think that Jiya made the right decision.

Jiya made the wrong decision because if there is another storm like a tsunami, then he might not make it out of the storm alive. The Old Gentleman’s Castle is a safe place to stay even if there is a storm. He will have no worries of anything if he goes to the Old Gentleman’s Castle. Also that it would e better if Jiya goes to the Old Gentleman’s Castle because kit is more better there than living at Kino’s home. So this is why I think that Jiya made the wrong decision.

Why is Jiya right? He’s right because Jiya is now able to live with people who actually care about him and love him. Kino’s family don’t like him because he’s handsom. They love him for him and he loves them. The old gentleman only wants Jiya because he’s stong and handsom.
Why was Jiya wrong? He was wrng because Kino’s house is small and he is poor. The old gentleman would have given him almost anything. The only thing Jiya wouldn’t get is real love from the heart.

i think he made the right decision because he picked a place where people love him. They don’t just want him because he is the strongest. i also think he made the wrong decision because he wouldn’t really get a good education. now Kino’s family has another person to take care of. they are poor and he won’t whatever he wants. But he still made the right decision because he cant help out a lot. he can help take care of the plants. Jiya acutally knows who he is living with instead of a complete stranger who thinks he is the best in Japan

Jiya made the right decision because he staid with the ones that cared about him. But he could have got a good education. He also made a good decision because the man just might have wanted him because he was good at something. If he went with the man he could have got a good education.

(part 2) Also when he staid on the farm they will lose more food. The man had more food. The man could have sent him to a good school with good education. The man was rich so he could buy a lot of stuff for Jiya. With Kino he maybe not go to a school at all. He has to work on the farm for his food.

“Why did Jiya make the right decision?”
Jiya made the right decision because if he stayed with the old rich guy he would not be loved for who he is. The only reason the old man picked Jiya was because he was the strongest, best looking, fastest, and smartest. He was wise to stay with Kino were he will have a loving family. Though at the same time he made the wrong decision.
“Why did Jiya make the wrong decision?”
Jiya made the wrong decision because if he stayed with the old man he would always have enough to eat, clothes to wear, and a warm bed to sleep in. He would have anything he had ever wanted or wished for. The only thing He would miss out on would be a loving family. But he would not have to work in the fields all day like he would have to if he lived at kino’s house.

I think Jiya did make the right and the wrong decision. If he stayed with the old man he would be rich with nice clothes a school and a nice home with food. Jiya wanted to stay with his friend Kino. If he was with the old man Jiya would never see Kino. JIya stayed with Kino and his family even though they are poor. He loves Kino’s family so he stayed with them. Jiya didn’t even know the old man. I think he made a wrong and a right decision.

The reason he made the right answer was because he couldn’t be bought with happiness. He cant just forget about everything, he chose to live with chino. And that is the way of s good Japanese.
Chino also had made the wrong decision because he could had had all of that money and be rich instead of having to work all day.

I think that Jiya made the right decision because then Kino will have a brother who happens to be his best friend. Jiya will be getting a lot of love and that is the most important thing of all. Now I kinda think that he made the wrong decision because he should think of all the things that he would get. But he chose thing that he wouldn’t get if he lived at the castle, love and friendship. He chose to spend the rest of his life with his best friend and brother Kino and that’s what matters the most.

I think that Jiya made the right decision because, he said he would stay with Kino. I think this because with kino he knows he will be loved. Also i think he made the wrong decision because with thevold man he knows that he might have more food more room a lot smarter and he could still see his friend Kino sometimes. But he still wanted to stay with kino and that made kino and his family happy.

I think he made the right choice because now he can be loved.Jiya didnt even know the old man.But he knew Kinos parents all his life.So he made the right choice because he will get more love with kino, because they know each other so well. But he also made the wrong decision.Because he could have helped so many poor people. With all the money he could have got from the old man,he could help feed, cloth,or even shelter people. And thats why he made the wrong decision as well.

I think Jiya did the right thing because all the old man wanted was the best kid there is. He did care if he was strong or smart. He was being judgmental. The old man was a jerk to only pick Jiya because he was the best at everything that the old man expected in a boy. It is not fair to anyone who isn’t like Jiya. He should care about Jiya even if Jiya wasn’t the best at everything. I Think Jiya mad the wrong descion. He could have had anything he ever wanted. I understand why he chose to be with Kino. They actually care about Jiya the right way will the old man just wanted Jiya for his ablities. That is not a good way to look a things.

I think that Jiya made the right choice because by staying with Kino and his family they had the one thing the old gentleman couldn’t give him…..love. Ya Jiya could have a life were he got everything. Every gift or pair of shoes he wanted. But by making the choice of staying with Kino he got the the best gift of all. People to call family and to love, and people that love him right back.
I also think Jiya made the wrong choice because Jiya is giving up the chance to be educated and the chance to have a good life. With everything he could have and things to learn. And the old gentleman could have made him great. JIya was giving u p the chance to make him someone other than just a fisherman’s son.

I think Jiya made the right choice.I think that he made the right choice because, if he would go with the rich old gentleman Kino would probably think that he rather go live with someone that he doesn’t know.Kino and his family would feel left out,but they would want to support the choice whatever he makes.Even if he doesn’t want to live with Kino the parents would still be sad.Jiya also mad the wrong choice because, they might have enough food for the family and the small village. And what if the house doesn’t have extra room or space for Jiya.

I think he made the right decision to stay with Kino. It would’ve broke Kino’s heart to see Jiya leave his family and not be his brother anymore. He didn’t want the Old Gentlemen to love him because he was the best boy in the village. He wanted loved for him. Kino is not as good looking as him, but so what? What if he was Kino? Would the Old Gentlemen want him then? No. He wanted to be loved for who he was. Jiya wanted a real family if he couldn’t have his real one. He isn’t better than any of the other boys. But I also think he made the wrong decision. He could’ve helped Kino’s family with money issues. He also could have went to school and got an education when Kino and him both know Kino’s father CANNOT afford a great school like that. Kino could also come over for play dates. Many said Jiya was foolish for his answer because the Old Gentlemen was filthy rich! But, “Money can’t buy happiness and love.”

I think that he made the right choice because he will stay with his family. He doesn’t care that he will have to work hard he just wants to stay with his family and be loved. also he might like what he is doing right now at the farm he doesn’t care if he does hard work he just loves his family. he doesn’t care if he is rich he just wants to stay home with his family that he loves.that’s why he made the right decision of picking to stay at the farm with his family.

Also i think he made the wrong choice because he could of been rich and had what ever he wanted and still be loved and have a family.also he could of had a beautiful house. and even one of the best eduction that he has had in his life well he probably hasn’t had one but he has the best first education that he has ever had. also he could have allot of money to buy things like toys, better clothing, like other things he would of wanted.so that’s why he picked the wrong decision instead of picking getting adopted at the castle with the old gentlemen

I think jiya was in wrong because , the gentleman could have helped him so much . He probably could have gotten a good education , have food everyday . He also could have gave so much money to the poor even Kinos family . But he might have made the right choice because Kinos family actually wanted him for him , not because hes the strongest or fastest . But because they like him for who he is .

I think that Jiya made the right and wrong decision by not going with the Old Gentlemen. I think that he made the right decision because he wouldn’t of found love there. The old gentlemen only wanted Jiya because he was the best looking and the best worker in the village, the Old Gentlemen didn’t love him. In fact, when Jiya said no the Old Gentlemen he responded saying “oh well I guess I will get another person from the village”. I think that that made Jiya realize that he made the right decision. But in some ways he made the wrong decision. I think that living with the Old Gentlemen would of been a good thing, in some ways, because he would of gotten a good education, also if he said yes then it would of been better because he has much more food, water, space and much more than Kino and his family do. Sure Jiya might not see Kino that much anymore, but the Old Gentlemen did say that he could have him over once in a while. In some ways Jiya made the right decision and in some ways he made the wrong decision.

jiya did the right thing in saying no.jiya staying with kino would know whats love is and still work hard like he used to.he will remember how him and his family worked hard on fishing only that this time its farming.jiya and kino will be together.
saying no was the wrong choice to because jiya would have had lots of money.he could of put in some money to help the poor and the fishing village.jiya would be dressed the right way and have had a good life.
but nothing is better than love.not even money because people can live without money but people CANT live without love.

i think that jiya made the good decision because would be loved by the kinos family. jiya would be happy and cared for not should off. plus jiya would be remembering the faily he once had, that he loved, and be remembering the things he needs too.

i think jiya made the wrong decision because he would have lived a full happy life. the old man would have given jiya all that he wanted. he would have been spoiled. ya he wouldent have love but who needs it. he would have money and more friends and a big room and he wouldent be stuck in that small house.

i think that Jiya made the right decision because the old man relly does not love him. the old man wanted only jiya because he his the best looking, and best at almost everything there is that they have in the small town. but if jiya was not the best at everything in the small town then the old man would most likely not know that jiya is a person. and if jiya said yes he would do nothing but learn. he would be acting like an adult by the time he is in high school. thats not right kids need to be kids.

it would have been nice for jiya to say yes. then he might of been one of the smartest people in the town maybe more then the small town. it would be nice to be smart. most people would chose a huge house over some small shack. same with food people chose lots of food to feed a family not hardly enough for one person. so the old man was trying to help the poor kid and let him live the rest of his life as a nice, rich, handsome, smart guy. that would be the kind of things that he could have been able to have but know he cant because he said no to a very great offer where he could have been in news papers on articles all over the world for just saying yes to a very nice offer.so he made both a good and a bad chocie

I think that Jiya made the right choice because ha knows that the family loves him. He knows the the old gentleman only wanted him because he was the best boy in the town. if all he wanted was to have a son then he could have picked any boy there, but he wanted the best ……..not because he loved him. I think he made the wrong choice because he could have gotten any thing he wanted. he could have been rich. He would have had servants! The old gentleman could have given him a good education. I think Jiya made a big mistake!

In my opinion he made the right decision because l would want to stay by home because hes friends and family are there and it would of not been right. He spent hes whole life there and was probably use to it. Also l would miss my family if l was gone. That why l picked yes. In my opinion he made the wrong decision because he miss out on a great opportunity for a good education. Also would of had more food and a better environment to be safe. And probably had a bigger house and mostly to be safer because they live on a volcano. That why l picked no.

The Right Choice:
I think Jiya made the right choice because if he went with the Old Gentleman he wouldnt be loved. They Old Gentleman only wanted him because he was a strong boy and good looking. But Kino and his family took him because they loved him for who he truly was. Even though they have barley food and water they gave him more because they love him so much.
The Wrong Choice:
I think Jiya made the wrong choice because he could have gotten better treatment and more food by the Old Gentleman. What I mean is he could’ve gone to collage and helped the world be a better place instead of going to the farm and helping one family. Also he would’ve had more things/toys to use.But the only problem is he couldnt see Kino at all.

I think he made the right decision because now he is living with people who love and care for him not with some old man who only likes him because he is the best. also because he can see kino his best friend plus he won’t be thinking about his family that much. but it is a bad decision because he won’t get a good school education. also because he won’t have a the money. I think he made the right decision GO JIYA!!!!!

I think Jiya made the right choice because the old man doesn’t even love Jiya for who he is he only likes him because of his appearance. He also made the right choice because now he gets to live with his best friend and Kino’s family actually loves Jiya for who he is. He may have actually made the right choice because he could have made a difference in Japan with all of the wealth and power he had.

Jiya made the the wrong decision because he could have had an awesome life. He could have had any thing he wanted. The elderly man would have done anything for him. He could have done something good with his life. The man would clothed him and made sure he had a good life why would he turn that down. I mean also he could help Kino’s family be send them a little money. This could help because Kino’s family doesn’t have alot a money for food so if he gave them money they could buy st. some. He wouldn’t have to be fed a little amount of food he would have a feast. This would help because then Kino’s family would get more food because they would have less mouths to feed.

I think that Jiya made the right decision, because of how the old Gentlemen did not really want a son because he loved Jiya. He wanted Jiya because of how smart, handsome, and athletic he was. Jiya made the right decision because I would not want to be taken in by someone who dose not love me for me. And really loves me for the way I look and the ability to learn or even the way I play sports. so that is why I think that Jiya made the right decision.
The way I think Jiya made the wrong decision is because he could have lived in a beautiful castle on top of a beautiful mountain. Also that Jiya could have gotten a even better education from the old Gentlemen, and have been even more educated. Also he could have changed the world Just by letting the old gentlemen adopt Jiya. So that is why I think Jiya made the wrong decision.

Jiya made the right decision for many reasons. One he is loved, he has a brother, and he would get to remember his parents more. He is loved more because people care for him. They care for him because the were good friends with them for a long time. He will have Jiya who will be like a brother to him. They could go on trips everyday and be happy. Jiya parents were great with Kinos parent so they could tell then more story about his parents and so he will remeber them. That is some of the reasons why he should stay.

I think Jiya made a wise desistion , because Kino’s family loves and cares about Jiya and Jiya loves Kino’s family . The old wise gentle men wants Jiya to be his son because he thinks Jiya is hansome and and that makes Jiya mad because, Jiya wants a family who loves Jiya for him self not how he looks. I think he made a mot so wise choice bacause if he said yes he could help make a difference by helping out Kino’s family by sparing a few bucks for them and he could help Japan become a better Japan like better homes and there are many more.

I think he made the right decision because could have seen that the old man just wanted the best. And how he didn’t want the other kids that are in his castle that survive the tsunami. And he saw that he wouldn’t be with his best friend. He made the wrong decision because he could have a better life in the castle. He could have use the money to help remake the village. He could have gone to a school to help him in his future.

I think that Jiya’s decision was both right and wrong. It was a wrong decision to stay because Kino and his family is poor and they couldn’t give him a great future. Staying with the Old Gentlemen could’ve got him a good house, good food, and good education. If he stayed money would have even been distributed to Kino’s family. The education that Jiya would have gotten would be a big impact on the village also. He could taught others that can’t afford good education. The good thing about Jiya staying with Kino is that he lives with people that care about him and he cares about them back. He has more love and support with the people he knows. Now he can spend more time with his best friend. it was a wise decision to make, following his heart. Living with Kino and his family is better for Jiya because it helps him recover from what had happened. It’s more comforting to be with somebody that has a similar background with you. Jiya would’ve never lived in a castle when his family was there, so why would he live somewhere that doesn’t feel like home. To me, Jiya did the right thing to stay with loving people like Kino and his family.

Maisie M.

I think Jiya made the right decision with many reasons. If Jiya lived with the old gentleman he wouldn’t be able to see Kino or Setsu as much anymore. And growing up in his castle would really kind of seal him off from everyone else. He wouldn’t be able to socialize, or even just have someone to tell his feelings to. I mean yeah, Jiya would get a great education, but does it really matter for him? I think he chose the right decision because he was following his heart. And didn’t choose the old man over the Uchiyama family just because of the riches or “safety”. It is really just as dangerous as it is any where else on the island. There is the ocean that can make tsunamis, the volcano which could burn everyone, and there are the fault lines under the island. But I also think Jiya made the right choice because the old gentleman really only wanted Jiya to make him look better. Just because to him Jiya was better looking and smarter than all the other orphans.

I think Jiya made the wrong decision for a couple different reasons, but I still think he was better staying with the Uchiyama family. If Jiya decided to stay with the old gentleman he would of been very successful and have a great education. He would also have a better job growing up, but for that to happen Kino and Jiya would never really be able to see each other again. If Jiya chose the old gentleman over the Uchiyama family he might of been able to change the old gentleman for the better. He only chose Jiya because of his looks and brain power. Jiya might of been able to make the old gentleman realize how horrible that is JUST to see someone for their looks or brainpower. You should like someone because of who they are.

Jiya made the right choice because he can see his friends and it will remind him of his old family

it was the wrong decison because one day when he is older he will want or need money for something important. it was however the right decision because now he is with all the people that love and care about him.

Q=Tell me in your own words why you think Jiya made the right choice. Also tell me why he may have made the wrong choice.

A= Ok four starters he made the right choice because he is living with people who love and care about him and that is a good thing considering every thing he has gone through since his parents death. However he has also made the wrong choice because the old man can give him anything and or everything he has ever wanted or dreamed of having. Plus the old man is rich so he would be able to pay for jiya to get a fine education at a good school. Jiya has also made the in the mittle choice because his parents just died and he had know one but his best friends family to love and raise
him he is just a kid who is probly confused and most likly does not know what is best for him.
