Make a Difference

27 04 2011

Today your teachers got to wear jeans to school if the donated a few dollars to the STARS program for autistic kids upstairs.  On this morning’s announcements we heard the results of the recycling drive contest and found out that the school had gathered over 50 feet of paper.  About a month ago almost the entire school got together to make birthday cards for my nephew.  We’ve had change drives, canned food drives, and hat/glove/scarf drives here at school this year.

All of these things are because we want to make a difference.  We want to help.  We want to change the world for the better.

BUT… how much difference can one person make?  Can one person change the world?  What exactly is the power of one person?

Tell us how much impact a single person can have on the world around them?  Can they make it a better place?  How?  What could I do?  What could you do?

Be sure to type out your answers in complete sentences.  Be sure to back up your ideas with some examples, evidence, or proof.  Be sure to check back and see what other people say too.  Be sure to comment on what they say.

I believe one person can make a change. Not a giant one, but I still think they can help society. This is because if they are truly dedicated they’ll do almost anything to help the world. Also they can cause a chain reaction. If one person helps three people then those people may help three people each, and so on. After awhile there will be so many people contributing that everyone gets help. It’s all thanks to the one person who started this. That’s atleast what I believe.

Lauren W.

I agree people can make a chain reaction, but what about people who helped stopping slavery and women rights, didn’t they make a big difference?

27 04 2011
Autumn E.

True. They were very important. I suppose one person can make a huge difference.

28 04 2011
Skyler W.

This is true Lauren, but I think it has to start off as an individual making an idea, and then there is a chain reaction. But you have to remember that all great ideas start off as one person, but the person is never alone.

27 04 2011
Grant O.

That’s a great idea. That’s kind of what happened with Hati. Oprah donated millions so someone else saw that so they donated and so on.

27 04 2011
Autumn E.

Yeah I thought about that when I got the idea. Oprah is actually a good example because even though she’s kind of crazy, she helps so many people out.

27 04 2011
Ammar I.

That’s exactly what I think. 1 person can make a difference by influencing other people.

27 04 2011
Autumn E.

Yep. It’s quite common to have people start things. Then it gets spread to other people endlessly.

27 04 2011
Martina K.

Great idea Autumn! I totally agree with you. The whole chain reaction thing is what can change the world. And it’s all because one person decided that he/she wanted to change the world! it makes perfect sense. That’s what i had wrote down too! 🙂

28 04 2011
Autumn E.

Thanks. That’s awesome that we had the same ideas.

27 04 2011
Claire G.

I totally agree with you, our class kind of made a chain reaction with Mr. Doerr’s class and other classes because of us inspiring them, it made them want to be like us and donate to people who have never had toys, and a good meal, and extra money, and name brand clothes, so one person, or class can cause a huge chain reaction between many other people.

27 04 2011
Claire G.

and this could make a huge difference to the world.

28 04 2011
Autumn E.

Yeah I kinda thought of that. We started a chain reaction with the contests.

27 04 2011
SarahL

I agree with you that people can make a difference but not a big one but still can help with the people in need.

28 04 2011
Autumn E.

Yeah even we , students, could make a difference.

27 04 2011
Nicole k

i absolutely agree autumn one person can make a chain , and just that one person helping and making that chain ,can cause many other people getting help .

28 04 2011
Autumn E.

Yeah and eventually everyone will help. (most people atleast)

27 04 2011
Collin

Thats a good point though i thought that something that wasnt much to someone could be alot to someone else just like “one mans trash is another mans treasure”

28 04 2011
Monica G

That is an awesome way to think about it. I didn’t know I could do all of that to help make a change. Very good examples! I will try my best to do all that!

28 04 2011
Monica G

I think this way too. I think That a person can make a change but not a very big one

29 04 2011
Joseph A

I agree with what you said about the chain reaction. When the disasters struck in Haiti and Japan, one person donated a huge amount of money, and other people followed. Good way to think about it.

29 04 2011
Abbie B.

It is like a chain reaction. But that chain reaction wouldn’t have started if that one person didn’t have the idea and put it into action

29 04 2011
Sam I

I agree that people can cause a chain reaction. Someone can make a small difference like in friends for change that person will do something then another person will do something good then so on.

27 04 2011
Jenna L.

Personally I think that a single person can change the world. In this one movie there is a boy. He was given an assignment at the beginning of the year to change the world. He believed he could so he made this system and what he did was he helped three people and he told those three people to help three people. Then the three people that they helped would help three people and so on. If we do this then we can easily change the world and it will not take much time. If you do the math after maybe three days about thirty-nine people are already helped and are going out to help three more people.

27 04 2011
Autumn E.

I agree with you. We have the same idea. Also I did NOT copy you I thought that and you drew it -.- anyway.. good idea I completely agree.

27 04 2011
Jenna L.

Thanks but it wasn’t really my idea. You have to give credit to the movie, the title I forgot. I will try and find the title and let you borrow it because it is a really amazing movie that i would recommend watching.

27 04 2011
Autumn E.

@Jenna
Sweet haha. It sounds like a good movie and it would also show me what the idea looks like in action. (Sorry if it doesn’t make sense it does in my mind)

27 04 2011
NateJiG

I understand your point and have seen that movie, but even though it starts out as 1 boy, it adds 3people, then 9 people, and so on. Though the boy is making a difference, is it actually only him? He helped 3 people. Those people helped other people. Did the boy actually help every single one of those people?

27 04 2011
Jenna L.

The boy didn’t really help the people but he encouraged it and that is what counts. The ending for that movie should have a better ending though I hate it.

27 04 2011
Ammar I.

That’s pretty much what I said and you change the world by influence.

28 04 2011
McKeNnA w.

I totally agree! That’s not what I thought at first, but that makes more sense then what i thought.

29 04 2011
Maisie M.

That’s an awesome response! I Totally agree with you! I wish I would of thought of something like that before! It’s really a genius idea to cause a chain reaction like that. Great Response Jenna !

29 04 2011
Abbie B.

That would be perfect if we put that idea into action. That would be one of the easiest ways to let people know that they need to help the world

27 04 2011
Grant O.

One person can change the world. Some people care so much that they dedicate their whole lives to helping people. For example Gandhi basically set India free by himself. Bill Gates is going to donate billions of dollars to charities when dies. The tree lady in Kenya planted millions of trees in her homeland of Kenya. When it comes down to it one person can change the world.

27 04 2011
Antonio M

I agree with you, but how can you change the world.

27 04 2011
Alejandro S.

I agree grant that anybody can change the world grant. My question is, will you do anything to change the world? :-1

27 04 2011
Brianna C.

I think that one person could make a very big difference. Like one way a person could help is by helping out with the STARS program for the autistic kids. They could donate their time to help them. There’s still a lot of other things that they could do to help. It’s kind of a good idea to have one person make a difference, instead of have a big group of people make a difference. Cause usually a lot of people can make a difference for a small amount of people. But one person can make a difference for a even bigger group of people. Just because you have more people, doesn’t mean its better. So yes, one person can make a really, really big difference!

27 04 2011
Autumn E.

Hmm .. that’s a good idea I never really thought of it like that. Technically though, the STARS program isn’t one person. It’s an entire orginization.

27 04 2011
Jenna L.

I do like the idea of the STARS program. Although it is possible that one person started it and a bunch of other people joined so all in all one person can change the world.

27 04 2011
Brianna C.

Yeah, i know its an organization. But like Jenna said, one person probably started it and then other people just kind of like joined. So it was one person in the beginning but then became a like big group.

27 04 2011
Martina K.

Autumn. The STARS program is an entire organization, BUT one person must have had to start the whole program. Right? So then again that one person can make a difference in the world. One person is still capable of changing the world, more people probably started joining in on the STARS program after that one person started it! 🙂

27 04 2011
Ammar I.

Yeah but at that rate it will be a while to change the world. But that one person won’t be alone. As you help a person that person will help another person. It goes on.

27 04 2011
Carli C.

That is a really good idea, but with things like that, you WOULD need more than one person to make a difference. One person wouldn’t be able to get the appropriate funds to make an impact.

27 04 2011
Alejandro S.

nice WAY TO PUT IT BRIE.

27 04 2011
BRYCE KURTZ

when one person starts helping, other people help because of that person. this is called a chain reaction.

27 04 2011
Tori H

I like your idea Brianna and your right one person could change the world by giving the STARS program money.

27 04 2011
SarahL

I do agree with that people should help with the earth and donate their time to help autistic kids with help in thier program.

27 04 2011
Alex R.

I think that it would be possible for one person to change\help a larger group of people. Although it would take awhile because there are so many of them. Also that person could speak to them to help them feel better. You don’t have to buy them stuff to help them. You could help them by speaking to them t o get their spirit up.

27 04 2011
Nikolas S

I don’t think it would take that long to help a group.

27 04 2011
Nikolas S

Wouldn’t the things you were doing spread throughout? Other people in that group could also do the things you are doing to.

27 04 2011
Ammar I.

It will take a long time.

27 04 2011
Lauren W.

Wouldn’t it take almost to long for a person to help a larger group of people by talking to them all personally?

27 04 2011
Ammar I.

Yeah but it will get faster eventually because other people would start to do it.

27 04 2011
Collin

It would take a long time, though if you recruited a few friends who also want to change the world that is how large charity groups form, many people helping the same cause.

27 04 2011
Sean C.

One person can make a big difference. They could plant trees or help animals in need which would make a large difference in the end since animals forests are getting cut down and animals are starting to starve and die since they cant live in a different environment but if you save them and try to make more trees for the animals it could help greatly like in a book called Planting The Trees In Kenya. It was about a girl who was born in Kenya but went to America for education and came back she started to plant tons of trees and got other people to plant more trees until they made huge forests filled with tons of trees. It was making a large difference because most the the trees were gone because of people cutting down trees for farmland.

27 04 2011
Nikolas S

How can one person stop an entire organization from cutting down trees?

27 04 2011
Carli C.

He could if he set his mind to it!!!!

27 04 2011
Lauren W.

Hard work and Dedication.

28 04 2011
bree s.

if you protest a lot then one person can stop that. buy it would take a lot protesting and then you would also tell the the people why they should not cut down the trees.

28 04 2011
bree s.

if you protest a lot then one person can stop that. but it would take a lot protesting and then you would also tell the the people why they should not cut down the trees.

29 04 2011
Maisie M.

Wow that’s a really good idea! I agree on the story of Wangari Maathai saving Kenya. That’s what i put in my response too I think that is a great example of someone changing the world in a good, positive way. Not causing any harm to anyone, great response!

27 04 2011
Nikolas S

I think one person can make a difference. It might not make a big difference but it makes a difference. If one person recycles or does other good things for the planet it will make the planet that much better! Also if that one person does all that work, then maybe he will influence other people to recycle and do good things for the environment and it is a never ending chain! One person influences another person, then those two people will influence other people, then those people will influence more people.

27 04 2011
Lauren W.

I agree with your answer, but what about people like Abraham Lincoln, who DID make a big difference?

27 04 2011
Nikolas S

But didn’t other people help him in a way?

27 04 2011
Claire G.

or Martin Luther King Jr.

27 04 2011
Jenna L.

Personally I don’t really think that President Lincoln made a difference. I mean slavery was bound to get overrated some day Abe Lincoln just sped it up. Many people believed that he had slaves of his own as a kid and while he was president. You never really know with all of the rumors and things going around. Some one even wrote a book about Abe Lincoln being a vampire slayer. How creepy is that?

27 04 2011
Carli C.

Abe Lincoln OR Martin Luther King Jr. or any of those rights movements. (AKA-Rosa Parks)

27 04 2011
Lauren W.

Well, he had other people in his government, but he was the president who made the law to stop slavery.

27 04 2011
Lauren W.

Jenna, how can president Lincoln NOT of made a difference. I mean yes, slavery would eventually be against the law, but imagine how much longer those slaves would have to suffer!!!!

27 04 2011
Ammar I.

The reason why Abraham Lincoln made a difference because he was a president and stopped slavery.

27 04 2011
Jenna L.

Lauren, the slaves wouldn’t suffer much but revolt which if they didn’t win or conquer the slave owners then they would suffer a lot. Although if Abe Lincoln wanted to make a difference why would he go and do the opposite of the example he is trying to set?!?! 😉

27 04 2011
Alex R.

I agree to that if one person does something good other people will most likely help them

27 04 2011
Claire G.

That’s a great idea, it’s kinda like how we influenced Mr. Doerr’s class to recycle paper for the contest.

27 04 2011
SarahL

I do agree with you how a person can make a differnce in the world and how they would influence others by helping the earth.

27 04 2011
Collin D.

There are many ways one person can make a difference. For example giving spare change to a charity. That few dollars that you had given might not have been much money to you though to someone that doesn’t have any money or a permanent job that money could mean a lot, buying food, saving for a permanent home, or warm clothes for the winter. Or in this class when we did the change drive for special Olympics that was to make a difference to research cures for diseases.

27 04 2011
Claire G.

Yes! I agree with you, even if you donate 3 dollars, to someone that has never had that much money in their life, that means a ton.

27 04 2011
Lauren W.

The answer to this question to me is that one person can change the world. Everyone in the world holds inside themselves the power to have an impact on the world. Think of if everyone tries to help a larger group of people, how much better our world would be.
For example, people can donate money for charities, protest for something you believe in, or even encouraging others to help a large group of people. In this school we have already done a lot to help larger groups of people, like all of the drives for scarfs, and mittens, or the change and canned food. We have helped large groups of people in need.
Examples of people who have helped large groups of people are Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, and last but not least, Betty Friedan, who helped woman’s rights.

27 04 2011
Isabel T.

I completely agree! Good examples.

27 04 2011
Nikolas S

I’m pretty sure all those people did not do all the work on their own, they probably had some kind of help.

27 04 2011
Alejandro S.

I agree with you Lauren but can you think of anything else that can help change the world. Something nobody has done ever before. 🙂

27 04 2011
Autumn E.

I agree . Those people really made a big change. They fought against slavery, women rights, and even racism(if that’s how you spell it ). Great idea though.

27 04 2011
Mackenzie C.

Lauren that is such a true statement if all those people can change the world so can we! I never thought about that until after I read your article. That is a smart idea to think of.

27 04 2011
Nikolas S

I’m pretty sure those people did not do all the work by them self. they probably had some type of help.

27 04 2011
Nikolas S

sorry it made a duplicate.

27 04 2011
Hailey A.

I love the way you worded your response. I also love how you added the inspirational people at the end. Did you ever think about what if the one person had no help, for example if they wanted to collect canned food what if he couldn’t go to his friends for help but needed to do it all by their self. Would it be a lot harder or would it just be a little more challenging? Over all I loved your response and I agree, we have done a lot in this school to make the world a better place.

27 04 2011
SarahL

I really do agree how you said that about a person can change the world and how they do it and how special they can be.

28 04 2011
Monica G

Wow i didnt think of it in that way. I like how you gave examples of real people that did real things.

27 04 2011
Hailey A.

I believe that one person can help a bigger group. They can do this by collecting canned foods. To do this he can save everything he is not going to eat. They could also go around their neighborhood and collect can food that people aren’t going to use. By just collecting this food they could help many groups that have no food or he can donate it to shelters.
Another thing that they could do is collect spare change that they find at their house or while they are on a walk and find money on the ground. By doing this they can donate money to shelters or have no money or that need help. They could also send the money to orphanages.
Something else that could make a big difference in the world is if they recycled paper. They could collect paper from their house. Or they could get paper from their friends. After they recycle the paper, they could start to recycle newspapers and magazines. This would be something they could do to make a difference on Earth day or any day.
One thing that would also help on Earth day or any day would be to walk along a road or any place and pick up garbage that is along the side of the road. This would make the Earth cleaner and would help your community become a cleaner place. This is also an easy thing to do.
These things would make the world a better place. It would also help a lot of people in need. Even if you do something small it might end up to be a big help to make the world a better place. I do believe that one person can help a bigger group, they might even be able to change the world.

27 04 2011
Angela Z.

That is a great way of seeing it. All of those ideas will make the world a much better place. By doing that, it could inspire many other ideas and it would make an even bigger difference.

27 04 2011
Isabel T.

Defiantly!

27 04 2011
Thaisha N.

I agree that one person can make a HUGE difference to many people and the world.

28 04 2011
Autumn E.

Wow that’s a great idea Hailey! I never really thought of it that way. I suppose it could work.

28 04 2011
Maegan G.

I totally agree! Hailey, you made your point across very clearly. I agree because, you gave ideas/examples.

28 04 2011
Avantay B

l agree if you help atventurly it will grow a bigger group and be albe to help every sheltor in the world.

27 04 2011
Alejandro S.

One person can do many things. One day I was watching dogs 101and it featured this man who was walking from Mississippi to new york with his dog. The man had his first dog who died of cancer. Then he got two dogs of the same breed and started the walk with the dogs to New York. On the trip there he has been raising money to help dog cancer be fought. Then on his walk people started to join in and over a hundred people are helping him now. The littlest things can make a big difference.

27 04 2011
BRYCE KURTZ

I think yes, for sure. One person can change the world. One example would be the paper drive. Our homeroom, Mr. Curtis’s homeroom class, has kept a winning streak for the last three fundraisers. This has gotten the rest of Minooka Intermediate motivated to beat OUR CLASS!! So then one person ( or in this case, class) can change the world. This all happens one newspaper, one can, one coin, and one pair of gloves at a time.

27 04 2011
Alejandro S.

Nice way to put it brace. Kind of like my idea. 🙂 🙂

27 04 2011
Mackenzie C.

Nice example at the end with the all one thing. I like it, nice work.

27 04 2011
Isabel T.

I believe that one person can make a difference in the world. It may not be a huge one but a little difference is way better then no difference. It depends on weather or not your determined. If one person can help that can lead another person to help and another person and another person, which will eventually cause a chain reaction and then people from all over the world can make a difference in their society. And that will be because of the one person. Another thing they could do is to start-up a world wide organization to make a difference. Of course it won’t start as a worldwide organization but it eventually can as long as people are dedicated and have their heart in the right place to make a difference.

27 04 2011
Lauren W.

I believe one person can change the world, look at all the people who have fought for a cause, wouldn’t they have made a huge difference?

27 04 2011
Isabel T.

I agree ,but although they may have their heart set in the right direction, they may not be able to make as big of a difference as a group. However i do think that some people can make a bigger difference it all depends on who they are and what their motivation is, weather its to help and stop because you have accomplished your goal or to help and keep going. All in all what i’m getting at is that it all depends.

27 04 2011
Tori H

I agree with what you are saying. Great job explaining your ideas and yeah it doesn’t matter if it’s a big change it could be a small one too.

3 05 2011
Isabel T

Exactly! because you could make small changes that lead to bigger ones.

27 04 2011
NateJiG

Many different things have gone through my head when i hear “making a difference”. And the first thing i think about is bullies. Every day at least once in the day i get called a name or picked on or shoved into lockers. And at least TWICE a day, i see somone else get picked on or ect. All i want to do is make this stop! I just want to stand on the lunch table at lunch and say my feelings. Most bullies are just trying to make themselves feel better by making you feel bad. Other bullies are scared of the bullies and become a part of a posse. Who cares what they say? People respect you for being yourself and doing what you want regardless of what popular status says. If you have friends that like you for who YOU are then you’re popular. I am sick of bring told that I’m weak or “uncool” and “nerdy”. Well I’d rather be a weak, uncool nerd than a total JERK that no likes. Almost everyone in the world hates bullies.

27 04 2011
BRYCE KURTZ

actually nate, it’s not really about bullies. Its about helping others to help the other people around you. Bullying is a different story.

27 04 2011
NateJiG

Don’t you think that if one person can end bullying that everyone else would be helped? This is just one example of how one person can help a big group. Wouldn’t your life would be easier if no one was there to pick on you? You could do whatever you want without being made fun of because its ” not cool ”
I know that my life would be easier, no one making fun of my HAIR!!!

27 04 2011
Antonio M

I don’t think it’s about bullying. To me it’s about how one person can make a huge difference. Also that little things can make a huge difference

27 04 2011
Alejandro S.

Any person can do anything they want. If you put the right thinking in action, anything is possible. Try hard enough and you will succeed at your goal.

27 04 2011
BRYCE KURTZ

I like what your trying to say. That is an important quote that is used in a lot of movies and t.v. shows. good work

27 04 2011
NateJiG

Though that is true, what does it have to do with a small group helping a bigger group? Their gal might be to become president or something. Not all goals are to help the world. What should we try hard enough to succeed at?

27 04 2011
Angela Z.

I believe that any one person can make a huge difference in this world, and make it a better place. There are many different ways that you can do that. One great way to help, is a person like you can start by doing one little thing like donating. Then, that could inspire other people. More and more people could do the same thing as you, and then it will become a huge difference. By just doing that one little thing, you can make this world a better place. That just shows, that the power of one person is endless. You have to figure out how much power there would be to change the world if everybody just took a little bit of time in their day to pitch in, and do something little for the Earth. It will always add up. We have only one Earth, and we have to take care of it.

28 04 2011
Ariana.M

i think you are very right all it takes is one person to make a change in the world and i think that by one person making a change it could inspire so many people to make just a little change, and think about it if every one were to make just a little change the whole world would be different. All it takes is a little insperation and you could change the world.

28 04 2011
Avantay B

i agree one person can make a change you can just do one thing and make a big change like pick up plastic of the street and when you doing it it a big affect on the world. So you are right we need protect it and care for it.

29 04 2011
Abbie B.

I agree this is the only planet we will ever get. If we don’t take care of it then it will get messier and messier and even more pouted then it is now.

27 04 2011
Ammar I.

Can only 1 person make a difference to a huge group. Yes he can do this. But it’s really hard. He needs to donate food, money, and recycle. In a certain amount of time he’ll change very little. But if he can do this by himself then years later it would change the world. But in a group it would make it change faster. If 1 person does this then later people will help you. They want to change the world with that one person because they are now aware of how the world is changing. So slowly people will start doing it and doing it and finally the whole world will do it. It’s like the drives. When we kept winning the contests other people started to go ahead and tried to beat us. So 1 person makes a difference to a whole group. The answer is yes because when they do this other people will do it and eventually it will change the world.

One person can definitely change the world, millions of people do it every day. For Example, if you plant one tree, your making a difference. As the quote goes”to the world, you may be one, but to one you may be the world”. If you plant one tree, you may be saving one person, and you may be the world to them. You can change the world very easily, sometimes you do it without even knowing. People help make the a better place, sometimes you don’t even know it. It doesn’t matter good or bad, it still makes a different.

I soooo agree with you Claire and you did a good job explaining your thoughts.

One person can make a huge difference and change the world. There is not exactly an amount of how much power one person has to change the world. One person can make the world a better place by recycling, donating money to a good cause, working at a homeless shelter, or anything that will help make the world a better place. For example you can plant trees like the people of Kenya. If you pick up garbage it won’t pollute the air. I can make a difference by recycling and not wasting paper. I can also give away clothes or toys I don’t need anymore to little children that don’t have things I’m lucky enough to have. Adults like Mr. Curtis can make the world a better place by riding their bikes instead of driving cars with gas that pollute the air. One person can make a huge impact on the world and so can you.

27 04 2011
Matt

I feel the same way. Anyone can make a difference and can be a good person.

27 04 2011
Skyler W.

Your comment made total sense on how we can make our world a better place. I also think that one person can change the world. Don’t you think that it would take a little more effort though to change such a big world?

28 04 2011
Avantay B

l agree you can do anything to help the world as long as you are helping l am gald you post this it was a good post.

27 04 2011
Matt

I think that anything is possible as long as you believe. If one person can try to do at least 1 thing, it may get other people interested and start a movement. It doesn’t matter if you have problems or not, you can do it! Just like in Men and Mice everyone can make a change. Anyone can start a movement. And absolutely everyone should help.

27 04 2011
Jenna L.

Matt, I agree with what you are saying and I totally think one person alone can start a movement! They just have to believe. For example have you seen the movie The Polar Express?! In the movie because the main character believed that santa was real he was able to hear the bells but his parents couldn’t. Then once he grew old his sister couldn’t hear it but he still could! That movie shows people that IF they believe then they can most definantly achieve! Nice idea! 😀

27 04 2011
Brianna C.

I agree. Once people start seeing one person make a difference, everyone will start making a difference.

27 04 2011
Skyler W.

I totally agree, but don’t you think it is better if one person does something big to help the world other than many people doing little things to help the world. I think this is the real argument in this conversation.

27 04 2011
Skyler W.

If you really think about it, individuals make big differences all the time! For an example, all great ideas start off in the mind of one person. So the idea of fundraisers started with one person, and now it’s helping many people everyday! Also, the book that we read called Planting the Trees of Kenya involved one person making a difference to change their whole community. If you try really hard to change something that you don’t agree with, you can change it, and help people in the long run! I remember a book that I read about a young boy trying to escape the holocaust, and when I finished the book, I actually met the boy because it was a true story, and the boy is still alive today. Well I learned that he now goes around and teaches kids about never giving up. This man also is doing fundraisers to help people in need. This is an example on how one person can do something that can effect people in many great ways. So it is true that one person can help a big group of people, but they just have to be determined!

27 04 2011
Hailey A.

I agree you can help people by trying to change something you don’t agree with. You wrote a very well worded response.

27 04 2011

I agree that one single person can change the world. They could donate many things too.

28 04 2011

I agree that one person change the world. Also i think that the boy from the holocaust is a very good example of one person changing the world because you are not suppose to give up. Also doing fundraiser will help change the world.

28 04 2011

I totally agree with you Skyler, and yah we can all make a difference in even the smallest things. Also I really like your example with planting the trees of Kenya. And I really think with a little hard work and determination we could all make a difference.

28 04 2011
Skyler W.

Thanks Alexa I thought that one person can change great things because the proof is everywhere you go! If you think about it, many people make a difference everyday and they don’t even notice!

I am not sure what I can do right now, but I did read Three Cups of Tea. It is about a man named Greg Mortensen. He tried to climb the mountain K2, but he got lost and ended up in a small village in Pakistan called Korphe. He saw that the children, especially girls, had either little or no education. Greg set out to try to build schools for the children all over the Middle East, but mainly in Pakistan and Afghanistan, where the Taliban had forbidden education. His big problem is that he has no money. He practically lives out of his van, because he was fired from his nursing job after being gone for too long, since he was trying to climb K2. He raised money, and a guy named Jean gave him a bunch of money. He made a big impact. He gave poor families a chance for their children to have a better future. The families thanked him and Greg built more schools. He wanted to make that big difference. He goes through many hardships, even a debatable kidnapping, but he still tried his best to make his mark on the world.

28 04 2011
Nicole k

i agree with what your saying but , but even you can make a change just by recycling, & and saving energy by turning of lights , & unplugging things when your not using them . That’s still making a change.b

27 04 2011
Mackenzie C.

I bet one person can change the world. They can change the world by starting many groups of people around the world, like one on the coast, another one where it is very farm like, and finally a mountainy place. Everywhere where you can make a change in different setting and climate. Like on the coast you can clean all the scraps up so sea turtles don’t mistake that for jelly fish, on farm land you can plant trees to give more oxygen and life to the planet, on mountains you can get fresh spring water instead of using all the salt water and taking it away from animal life. One man can make a group and do all of this for the environment, you just have to try for and and then you can do it. If you can dream it, you can do it. This also would change the world and how our great grand children will see polar bears and penguins. We can change the world it just take a couple baby step until you get the hang of it.

27 04 2011
Nicole k

i totally agree makenzie , just one person can make a change

27 04 2011

After seeing alex’s comment that made me know that doing anything could help a large group because what may seem like not much could seem like a lot of help to someone.

27 04 2011
Martina K.

I believe that one person is capable of making a big difference. The power of one person lies in their heart. It depends how confident and determined they are to actually make a difference. So I think a single person can encounter a huge impact upon the world. The person might find it fun too.
The person could start off, by just recycling and see what happens. And i bet it will take a long time to make a difference. It doesn’t necessarily have to big a huge difference though. This one person that started it, can be an inspiration. Therefore, other people can participate one recycling. Then maybe they start picking up litter around the neighborhood. And the people around the neighborhood start participating on picking up litter too.
If people don’t want to join in on recycling and picking up litter, then that group of people can just keep doing what they’re doing, and it will work out. I’m pretty sure that more and more people can participate in on the recycling. Then when they got enough people they could start doing different things, like donating money to a shelter for animals. So now this group is doing a variety of things for the world, slowly by slowly the world might become a better place.
I think the people who are all working together to change the world are doing this because they believe that they can. You have to have confidence and motivation. For example, this one person who started the whole thing. This person had this feeling or theory that he/she could change the world and they can. It doesn’t matter what age either. It’s possible for this to happen. You should never deny that you can’t do something, because just one person can make a difference in the world. 🙂

27 04 2011
Thaisha N.

Hey, Martina I had the exact idea. I guess many people will think that one person can change the world and the lives of many people.

27 04 2011
SarahL

I agree with you how a person with a big heart can help and change the earth and others with and can show how that person can help others with a bright heart.

28 04 2011
Avantay B

That is a really good way to look at it it lies in your heart notthing is stronger then your heart. If you belive you can achieve. Good job martine.

27 04 2011
Tori H

I totally think that one person could make a change in the world. I think that because Hitler changed the world for many people by killing millions of people. I could go home and start to change the world right now if i wanted to too. I could do this by turning off my lights when I’m not using them, turning off the water when I’m brushing my teeth , and recycling paper. All of this could change the world in many ways. If I turn off the lights it could save energy and if I recycle paper it could save a tree from getting cut down and we would be able to reuse it over again. That is why I think one person could change the world.

28 04 2011
Thaisha N

Hey Tori, I was thinking the same thing that you wrote. Mostly everyone thinks that one single person can change the lives of many. Wait, No, they could change the world.

28 04 2011
Dr. Jones

Tori try not to influnce people that have done horrible things in the past.

28 04 2011
PETE SCHAEFFER

Ya i agree with henry. You really should write something or someone that made a good impact in the world not a horrible one like Hitler.

28 04 2011

i agree that one person can change the world. I think that Adolf Hitler was a very good example.so i think only one person can change the world.

28 04 2011
Alexa A

Tori i totally agree, i mean hey Hitler was a terrible guy but he did influence many people with his ideas. And yah if i wanted to i could change the world. I want to and many people have. We could all help and i really like your idea about how everyone could help. And we should help because if we wanted to we could get everyone in this school to help.

27 04 2011
Thaisha N.

I do think that one single person could change thew world. They could change the world by recycling everything that they have that is either paper and/or plastic. They could go to a donation center and donate clothes and shoes that don’t fit them instead of throwing them away. Or they could donate clothes that the never liked or never wore. Then they could donate canned foods that their mother buys and they don’t like that food. So one person can change the lives of many people. No, they could change the world!!!!!

28 04 2011
Thaisha N

Continued side.

They could also donate things to a hospital such as toys to sick kids or money so their parents could pay the bills and maybe even buy their kid a toy for when they get any better.

27 04 2011
Ricky M

I think one person can change the world by maybe donating something to someone that they don’t have. like donating scarves and mittens to the homeless people. that could give them a least some warmth. or even donate canned foods for the starving kids and the starving families in Africa to give them something to eat.also they have awards for people who do good stuff for other people.

28 04 2011
Dr. Jones

I agree with that Ricky, but I don’t. What I mean by that is yes it is important to help people that need it the mo0st, but you shouldn’t just give it to one person. Try to give it to many people a lot of things they don’t have. Maybe if you try that, maybe they could get back up on their feet and live in a nice home.

28 04 2011
Someone Named Trevor

I think you did a really good job explaining your idea. I do think that one , only one, a single person, that one person, that lonely one person, can do one thing to change the world and that idea came from one single lonely person. Oh did i mention that only one single little person can do that.

28 04 2011
Gabby L

I agree. Of how you can donate, and also have fundraisers to help the people that need. You can also do is by donating food and water for people in Africa. In Africa because, it is way to hot for the people there.I like when you said that they have awards for people that can help out.

27 04 2011
trevor

I know someone that already did that. The person was Martin Luther King Jr. He went around the country telling about how black people were treated unfairly. Also how Rosa Parks made another big impact. When she didn’t move she made people protest.

28 04 2011

wait dude she didn’t move what didn’t she move from and how did that change people.

28 04 2011

Jaret I don’t get what you mean. I mean like dude that makes no sense. Do you mean by with Rosa parks didn’t move from the bus seat. ‘Cause if ur talking about that then i’m sorry I forgot to put it in there.

28 04 2011

Jarret rosa parks didn’t move from her seat on the bus to go sit in the back for a white man this started the movement agenst segregation! 🙂

I think it is possible because during the gulf clean up a girl our age was painting pictures of birds that she saw. People payed a lot of money for them because she was really good. when she was done she used the money to help withe the clean up.

28 04 2011

She did because, she wanted to help out.I think because what happened to the gulf probably was important to her to help out.Maybe she love animals so much that she wanted to help them to get better.

27 04 2011
Ariana.M

I think it is possibly for 1 person to change the world. expecally, because just making a little change to your every day life could change so many things for so many people, and i think know matter how big of a change you make it still makes a huge difference.

27 04 2011
Nicole k

I think it’s possible for one person to change a large group of people. For example, teachers . Teachers make a difference in many people each day , they help children learn more & help them become smart & that’s just one person doing that . Besides teachers there are doctors, they save a large group of peoples lives every day. Also cops , they help people stay out of danger . All it takes is one person to make a change .

28 04 2011
Dr. Jones

I very highly agree with that because any person, even a teacher can be a life changer

28 04 2011
Skyler W.

It was a great idea how you said that teachers make a difference it made total sense because the do. I do have different thoughts on the other examples that you made. This is because the other examples included one person in a huge group. The police officer is one person, but they are part of a big group that also helps people. Overall, it was a great response!

27 04 2011
GabbyL

Can one person make a change? That can make a change, one thing that is important to the world can change it. Anything that person does will or may change.A person can make a small group and name it by them and make the world better. They can make signs and posters to get the people interested into help saving the world. One person can make a change.

28 04 2011
Danielle.D

I agree. But they can do much more. Like dogs. Pit Bulls have bad reps. So people parade sweet ones around. A lot of things can happen.

29 04 2011

I agree, but i never would of thought of putting posters up and getting people interested.

27 04 2011
avantay B

I think one person can make a difference. I think this because if you recycle you are making a change by your self. If you are saving power you are making a change by your self. That why l think one person can make a change because they can. You should always say you can do something never deny it because you can and you should.

28 04 2011
Nicole k

i completely agree, you should always say you can do something & never deny it .

28 04 2011
Nicole k

i completely agree, you should believe you can do anything & don’t doubt yourself .

28 04 2011
PETE SCHAEFFER

I agree and i dont agree.I think you should recycle no doubt. But to try to get everyone to do it will be hard.Because there are so many people that do recycle but there are more people that don’t.So if you could even try to get everyone to do it then i will agree.

27 04 2011
bree s.

i think that one man can change the way people live today. if you don’t believe me then just look at what what martian Luther king Jr. did in his life. he got all of that different things he did in just a few years. and if you really put some thought into it then you would see that without the way people would live in such a different life style today. and who knows maybe if he was NOT BORN people would not live the same.

28 04 2011
Ricky M

I agree that one person can make difference. also Martin Luther king Jr is a very great example of one person who could make a difference.

17 05 2011
bree s.

thanks that was the only person i can think of

27 04 2011
SarahL

I do think a person can change the world because the person showed what the people were doing to the world and what is happening to people around the world. So with a postive addit you can see how that person can change the world and show how to make others follow in the way the person is doing. With that person helping earth and show how badly we are hurting it,and show how to save the earth and keep it safe and green. And so that person will help others and still look to the bright side even if he or she is in a bad place. So by seeing person who cares about others and not him or her self, so maybe we can change the way how we do thing in our lives and take time to help the earth be green again.

28 04 2011
Dr. Jones

I understand what you mean but, it would be better if someone could change the world so it can inspire younger people

27 04 2011
Dr. Jones

I think it is possible for 1 woman or man that can change the world. One great example would be Martin Luther King Junior. He changed rights for all black people all over the world. At first he was treated unfairly, then he stood up for himself. Martin Luther King Junior set up the Bus Boycott. A boycott is when people rebel at doing something other people want them to do. There was this one woman. Her name was Rosa Parks and she tried to rebel against some white guy for being in his seat and she was arrested. It was unfair and wrong. She did not deserve this kind of treatment. It was a bad day for Rosa, but a inspiring day for Martin Luther King Junior. From that day on, black people would not be treated unfairly from then on to the present. That day saved them from bad things in the future.

28 04 2011
Ariana.M

I agree with you because you are right Martin Luther did change the world for so many people, and yes it was most likely hard but at the end of the day he stood up for his rights and for what he believed in witch takes alot of courage witch i defenetly think he had and his story proves to the world that know matter how big of a change you make in the world it counts for something and that also shows people that you and you alone could change the world.

28 04 2011
Danielle.D

That was a really good opinion on Martin Luther King. His quote, “I have a dream.” I tihnk was his dream that everyone can live in harmony and treated equally.

28 04 2011
bree s.

i agree that one day made some people mad like Rosa and the white man that wanted his seat. but at that same time and same day one person changed the world for all blacks. without him life would be so different. i cant imagine what it would be like!

29 04 2011

That was a great thought. I didn’t think of it that way. Because of him, everyone gets fair treatment.

I know one person… And it’s me. I was on a website where you can own your own virtual pets. I made a forum post, “Pit Bull Fighting Isn’t Only Frowned Upon, It’s Illegal” and we talked to a lot of people. But one person posted. I’m leaving her name anonymous. She said, “So what? I fight Pit Bulls!” And everyone started being mean to that person. I then sent them a message… It was more like a yelling message. I love Pit Bulls. But many hate. So she friended me and we IMed. I told her many facts and persuaded her to stop. Months later, she told me, “Hey Little D, can you yell at me?” And I was confused. I asked why. She said, “I’m back to fighting.” and she showed me pictures of the fights recently. I told her it’s not right to do that. Pit Bulls have a bad reputation and I got her to quit. For good. She hasn’t been fighting since last year. In fact, she is my friend’s long lost aunt, and she’s pregnant now with a boyfriend. She said to me, “If it weren’t for you, my life would be a mess.” But I never thought of it that way. She even got rid of her dogs and it’s out of her life for good. so keep in mind, if me, an 11 year old, can, you can too. Reinforce the laws of no dog fighting. I stopped one person. I think that’s enough to stop the world from this cruel “sport.” I talk to her every day now. She’s a good person. She has changed my perspective on life, and I thnak her for that, but she said I really shouldn’t when I turned her life for the better when I told her to stop fighting. Anyone can help by just adopting a Pit Bull or report a dog fight in progress.

28 04 2011

wow it doesent take alot to change the world i think that you made a big difference in her life and i think that is a good thing and if you could change her life while changing your own in the process i think there is maby some hope that we as a group or just 1 person could change the world

28 04 2011

i think it is very possible for one person to affect 100 or more people like the guy who made cars.that changed transportation forever because now everybody owns a car pretty much

28 04 2011

I agree, but one person can effect millions, we know that. But what about only a few people? A few is better than nothing.

28 04 2011

that might have changed the world but that will also kill the world one day. and that day can be tomorrow for all we know. so i disagree!

30 04 2011

I agree with you Bree because the cars that we have today are slowly killing the world. Even though the cars make transportation easier I also think that we would all be SOOO much healthier if we were to ride a bike, scooter, skateboard, or even walking to places would be better. Especially with gas prices this high now a days, I mean unleaded costs about the same as deseil!

29 04 2011

That may be convinent for transportation. The thing is, it will ruin the ozon layer. We wont be able to live to our full potencial. That is why I disagree with your answer.

One person can change the world. I know it may sound weird. But it’s the truth one person can make a difference. It could be by picking up littler or conserving water. Everyone can make a difference. Many people have and are still helping to make changes. Like Martin Luther King Jr. he helped to give right to African Americans all over the U.S. We today you can make a difference by recycling or helping someone cross a street. Anyone can help……anyone. Someone right now someone could be making a difference. And we can to by helping someone with homework or walking to a friends house over the weekend. We can all make a difference we all can even in the littlest things we do.

29 04 2011
Danielle E

That could possibly be correct in your own thought of the answer to it but i don’t think that one person can make a change in the world because it takes like 20 to make a change so it would just be hard to do that but if you had a group of people it would be easier because you would have a lot of people but if you had one person then it would be really hard

28 04 2011
Maegan G.

Yes, I do think it’s possible for one person to make a change. I see it happen almost everyday. Teachers make a huge impact and difference in our lives. They teach us new things everyday, do they not? Some teachers give us ideas to change something! Mr. Curtis is helping us understand autism and realize that it is a big deal ,and that we can try to help out. Basically, all you have to do is believe a little bit and have confidence in yourself. You can collect cans, raise money , have a bake sale, garage sale,or a car wash, basically all you can do is raise money. There are many ways to save and raise money. You can even start your own program and you and many others can do the same thing and raise even more money.

28 04 2011

I do think that one person can change the world. I think this way because on TV you see people that clean the Gulf of Mexico and they do all kind of stuff to help people. Also, I kinda in a way helped change the world or a least helped. What I did was I had a lemonade stand. It sounds kind of silly but i raised over one hundred fifty-six dollars the hurricane victims. Then I brought i to the bank and the sent it to them. After that they put up a picture of me and my cousins. So if i can do something to help then anyone can!

28 04 2011

28 04 2011

They can do more things. Make posters, parades, groups. And there are a lot of people doing that now. For Pit Bulls, it’s Shorti Rossi and Villalobos Rescue Center. For black rights, it’s Martin Luther King Jr. Many others exist, though.

I also think a way to make the world more green would to be stop littering i mean ya it might not do much but it is definetly a step up from where we are now, maby geting rechargeable battaries or light bulds we wouldent be using so much waste and i think that would make at least a little bit of a change and maby if you or someone you know makes a change like that it would inspire other people to do the same.

Yeah, that would be nice if people didn’t litter. My dog once got his head caught in a littered plastic bag and it was heartbreaking to see him having trouble breathing so I got it off of him as soon as I noticed it, but it really scared me.

29 04 2011

yeah i think that is a really good idea. if we recycle and stop using so much plastic the world would be a better place. That is why we should recycle. Great idea.

I think that one person can change the world in a positive way. I think that because some people have changed the world before. Such as Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and so on. There are easy ways to get rid of the horrible things on this plant that we can fix. But some people that really want to change this world are to afraid to speak up! So with a little encouragement one person can change the world. There is plenty of things that one person can change the world. Such as recycling, the homeless, the jobless, and the very high prices for things such as food. So all you have to do is pick one of the things to fight for or maybe you could even try to change all of them. And at the end just might have changed the world and you are only one person !

29 04 2011
Eva R.

I agree with you Caitlyn, because if those people like Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks could change something in the word and help people then why can’t we?

29 04 2011
Jade R.

That is a good way that we could save the planet and if we each put up a little time and effort, the world will be green again.

28 04 2011
Thaisha N.

Wow, that is so true people should do that so that they could save more trees.

28 04 2011
JB B

I think that people should get a big bucket and save the rain that goes in it and then you could filter it so its okay to drink. People would save a lot of money on bottles of water when they would just have to pay for a bucket and a filter. We would save the O Zone layer by using less plastic for the bottle and paper for the labels. No one would even have to waste their time to get spring water so that people could drink if they don’t reuse the bottle. It would also be a great way to save money.

One person CAN make a change the world. If they have a great attitude and the money and courage, they can make a huge change! At first i thought they couldn’t but i thought, if one person can donate some money the just made a change.lots of people can a a difference. For example, if one each person in this school donates a dollar, that would be lots of money ! But lets say we did. WE ALL MADE A HUGE CHANGE!!!!!! That one person just needs help from others. If that person tried to do it without any help, they could not be able to do it because i don’t think that the whole world would listen to one person. Many people don’t care but many do. I didn’t care until i saw what was going on in the world. For example, japan is messed up!So i think one person can make a change.

I think that one person could change world in a positive way. The person could talk about wars and how so many people die. That could change people.:]

29 04 2011
Eva R.

But i disagree with you because some people don’t change when a person just makes a speech about their feelings and thoughts. Some people don’t even care enough to even listen to their speeches and protests because sometimes they think that it’s not a very big problem in our world.

29 04 2011
Collin V.

That’s true Eva, but still, wars are only going on because someone wants to take over. They probably lost the vote or whatever they do in those countries and got mad. Then America says, “Oh, let’s go help them for no reason!”. Maybe one person can make a really good speech that has never been said before and make a change by not making our soldiers go over to countries to fight a war we don’t need to.

29 04 2011
Jake R.

I think one person can make a difference. I think they could tell a bunch of other people to do good things and those people will tell other people and it might spread. You never now you just have to hope. That is how i think one person can make a difference.

29 04 2011
Jessica S.

Yes. I think that, because if you have clothes you don’t need donate them to the poor people. If food is at a good price, buy some extra and donate them. Or you can recycle to make the world a better place. Donate or recycle anything to help someone and the world. If one person can change the world all of us can.

29 04 2011
Eva R.

I think no matter how young or small someone is they can make a huge difference whether its for the world, for people or whether it’s for both. Someone can make a very big difference by speaking how they feel and maybe getting a group of people together to help. An example of someone making a difference are the people that help save the environment. You know like recycling and using less waste by doing everyday things. Or another example is the group of people walking to help fight the disease that is spreading around that is breast cancer. So yes I think that one person can make a group and help make a very big difference.

29 04 2011
Jade R.

Can one person change the world? Yes! One person can change the world, and in a positive way too. They can clean up all the trash in their community, raise money to help save the animals, clean up oceans and lakes. Also one person can convince everyone in their neighborhood to recycle. One person CAN do many things and change the Earth. There are many things one person can do. This is not all!!!!!

29 04 2011
Nate E

I think that one person can make a difference in a positive way. they can try to get along with other county’s and other places like foe example north Korea. aren’t they our enemy’s. i think a group of people can make a difference. that one person can go around trying to convince everyone to change and think about it. he can get a group of people to help him with the problem. that’s how i think one person can change the world in a positive way. how do you think?

29 04 2011
random person thats called Tyler

i think one person could change the world. The reason why is because there is many ways the world can be changed. By recycling, by donating money, by spreading joy, even by someone being killed. The reason why because if someone gets killed, then someone will try to bring justice by putting them in jail if there weren’t so many criminals in the world and if people helped each other more, then in my opinion the world would be better.

29 04 2011
Maisie M.

Yes I think one person can change the world. It’s like the story we read earlier this quarter, Planting the Trees of Kenya. if one person, Wangari Maathai, can change everything so why not rite? Wangari was born and raised in Kenya, she left for college one year and came back five years later. All the lush farm lands and forests that she was around all the time as a little girl was gone. And this had a big impact on her. She convinced all the people of her Kenyan village to re-plant the trees in Kenya. They agreed, so gradually Kenya went back to normal with all it’s beautiful trees. So I think people could change the world very easily, if it is a positive way anyways. Especially if you have the right approach, and with a lot of determination and backbone anything is possible. A way we could make a difference is to reserve energy. Most kids are on the computer all day or watching TV all day. We should encourage these kids to go outside for just maybe an hour or two a day to save energy. Or maybe even something as simple as recycling, every little bit helps.

29 04 2011
Julissa V.

I agree, kids should be encourage to go outside for couple hours,NICE IDEA!!

I believe one person can change the world. If you start doing something good then other people will see what you are doing is right and start joining in and helping. even with a small group of people we can make a big difference. One way we can make a difference is to plant a garden. If you plant a garden you can have nice fresh fruit/veggies and you could get some food for a homeless shelter. Helping those in need is a very good way to show yourself that you can make a difference and that you can help others in times of need. We basically are living in a dump. The earth is filled up with garbage, some of which can be recycled and reused.

29 04 2011
Joseph A

I agree with what you said about changing the world. It would make the earth a lot more cleaner because you wouldn’t have to buy canned vegetables and that would cut down on the landfills. Good job.

29 04 2011
Dr.Fasanella

one person can make a change by recycling recycling is easy all you have to do is put a can in a bag every month my family collects cans and brings them up to Michigan you get 10 cents worth of every can that’s an easy way to earn money. another way you can save the earth is by not polluting the earth by turning off your lights that’s just two of the ways you can save the earth. you can also take 5 minute showers instead of an hour showers. or my favorite thing to do is every time my mom buys a plane ticket to Florida so i can see my grandpa and grandpa and every time i go my grandma asks me if i want to go to the beach and help clean up and i always say yes so maybe next time you can clean a beach. so do the earth a favor,do yourself a favor, help the earth.

29 04 2011
Jose Q

Helping the earth is a really big job to do. it can help the animal and people to live loonger. They are able to do many things with a clean planet. People dont want to go to a dirty beach and enjoy it.no on likes going to dirty places

29 04 2011
Julissa V.

I think one person can change the world. Look at Abe Lincoln he change the so much. You can change it to it doesn’t have to be a big difference just go collecting cans and donate them. you can go around your neighborhood collecting trash and recycle it. Or you can raise money and donate that it will do a great cause. The power of one can change the world.

29 04 2011
the guy with the face named ivan c

I think someone can change the world but not the whole world. The person can start by doing something good in their neighborhood. Then have neighbors help them out. Then they can keep making a bigger and bigger change.

29 04 2011
Jose Q

Yea thats a great example. if you read some of the comments they have it where the thiong they had to make a big change in it but it would be bigger because the other people would use the thing you did.

29 04 2011
Joseph A

That is what I thought too. It would create a chain reaction and everyone would help out because of what one person did. Then they would change the world. Good job.

29 04 2011
Adriana B.

Yes I think one person can change the world for a group of people. I think yes because it has already happen. The people such as Abe Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. These people made a big difference in the world today. Like Abe Lincoln made the whole country a free country. Also Harriet Tubman got a lot of people out of slavery and took them to free states. Martin Luther king Jr. he made the country stop separating people from there race. These people were just one person and they changed the world. So yes I think one person can change the world.

29 04 2011
Julissa V.

I totally agree with your idea because Lincoln and Martin did change the world.

I think it is possible for one person to make a difference in the world. They would have to make a commitment to spend their life helping the Earth. Every day that person could gather tree seed. Once a month, they could bury them. If they do this their whole life, the earth will be better. That is one way a person could change the world on their own.

29 04 2011
Jade R.

What would burning tree seed do???? Well either way I agree with you that the one person would have to make a commitment and spend their whole life trying to make the Earth green again.! It takes a lot of people to help the Earth and it takes a very long time. Good Job!

29 04 2011
the guy with the face named ivan c

i agree dj. They can start off small then end big. They take baby steps and keep improving.

I think 1 person could change the world. It could be anyone. A person can have as much power as they may need. Just 1 person can make a ton of differences in the world 1 person should change the world but all of us should to. We could all help by recycling and also by donating stuff we don’t need. WE CAN ALL CHANGE THE WORLD EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US. If you have extra food or paper recycle it. (donate the food of course) Donate the clothes. Help the world be a better place. Not for just you for all of us.

29 04 2011
Joseph A

I think that one person can change the world. If you are really rich and have a lot of money you can donate some of it. When the Japan earthquake struck, many people donated money to fix the problems with the roads and buildings. They also donated supplies so they could survive. Then, when other people heard what a big donation the person made, they would donate some too. It all started out with the big donation that the one person made that caused other people to follow and save the lives of many people.

29 04 2011
Danielle E

I think yes and no because it is in between and a group of people can make a difference and one person might not be able to make a difference and so no because it takes tons of people to make a difference like if you wanted to make the world a better place and one person was trying to do that it wouldn’t work because you need a lot of people to contribute to the recycling because one person can’t go around just doing by themselves but if you had a group of people like 20 then you will be able to do a lot plant trees go around parks and get garbage of if you had the whole word try to do that then you wold have a better world of even just the united states then it would be a better country but that is why takes a group of people to do the work because one person can do that by him or she by there selves so that is why it takes a group of people to do that.

29 04 2011
Collin V.

Yes and many people have done it before. Martin Luther King Jr. did. He made blacks and whites have equal rights. Anyone can make a difference. Nurses make a difference for people by saving lives and curing people.

29 04 2011
Jose Q

Collin that is a great example. Martin Luther king Jr. never gave up on what he was doing. If you read my comment it talks about how you cant give up. Good job cOLLIN 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Carpooling is another great way to save the earth. If you carpool you aren’t using up as much gas. An even better way to preserve gas is to walk. Walking is a healthy, environmentally safe way to help the earth. If you have to go a mile or two away walking saves energy and keeps you healthy. Cars and buses let nasty egsust that pollutes the air.

29 04 2011
Jose Q

Yes i think that someone can make a difference. One way to make a big difference is finding a cure for cancer. A big amount of people are dieing from cancer. This would save a lot of peoples lives. People have to be confident in there self in order to do it. They have to work long and hard. When someone does it they will feel proud of doing it. People can not just give up doing something. Once they start on something they should not stop doing it. If they fail the first time it means they have to work harder on doing the next time. Many people had tried things that failed and made a big difference because they did not give up and they worked hard enough. Making a difference means you know how to work hard.

29 04 2011
Dr.Fasanella

yea i totally agree jose if you want to do something very hard then you should go for it but make sure you come up with a big plan

29 04 2011

One person can make a change. You can do anything you put your mind to. It may take a while but at least it will make a change in the world. A scientist can make a discovery and that may change how people think about what they are doing to the planet. For example say a scientist found that there was some of the landfills where sinking into the water and killing all the wildlife in the water below. Like today my mom was at the career fair and she can save peoples lives by setting people up on sleep study machines. The map maker can save many lives by making maps so people dont get lost and run out of food and supplies.

29 04 2011
Jose Q

Making your mom is a great example. Since people stop breathing in there sleep she would save there life. She also taught people how to work the machine so we can also make a difference.

29 04 2011
joselin v.

the story we are reading was based on this guy who changed the world and other people which helped a lot for the people and they say that a lot of people change the world but in this story there is a man that changes the world and makes a big different and the world around him.

29 04 2011
Dr.Fasanella

i think one person can make a veryy veryy big difference but you neeed a very big plan

29 04 2011
Lindsay F.

that can be true but i think even the smallest plan can make a huge difference. So i disagree!

29 04 2011
Amani M

Yes one person can change the world and there are many examples of it like Nelson Mandela or Martin Luther King Jr

29 04 2011
Lindsay F.

i think that one person can change the world because there was this girl named Danny who did these amazing paintings and she sold them to people. people bought her paintings cause they are AMAZING! and she convinced people to stop leaving trash on the beaches because turtles and tons of other animals might eat the trash thinking its food and that’s how the animals die. after a few months pasted people cleaned up the whole beach. so i do think one person can change the world!!!!!!!

5 05 2011
Jes B.

One person can makes a huge difference if they put their minds to it. For example, I was thinking of getting friends together and plant trees and flowers and plants and pick up trash. I want to make a difference in the world so future generations and live in this world with clean air and a health Earth. But, making a difference doesn’t have to be helping the Earth it could be anything. Giving money and food and clothing to the homeless, inventing a machine to make everyone’s life better, planting trees and other plants, finding a cure for cancer, someone could even convince everyone that aliens are probing our minds and making us destroy the Earth. That last one probably wouldn’t happen but it would make a difference. I can help the Earth and make a difference and so can you. Go to http://www.seql.org/100ways.cfm for 100 ways to help the Earth.
